2F. Open passage with passive IR detectors
Dimmable HF operating devices and ‘Dynamic lighting control’
Premises
When the lighting is to be presence-controlled in open passages which can also be open along one or both sides, a ceiling-mounted IR detector (PD-2200) is the best option. Note that detection will be of movements in the passage only. Positioning The PD-2200 detector with lens No. 17 is mounted ‘horizontally’ on the ceiling at a 45° angle to the vertical (see illustration on the right). One detector can cope with detection in passages up to 50 m long. In passages up to 100 m long two detectors are used one at each end, facing each other. In even longer passages further detectors must be used. |
The most important advantages attained using Dynamic Control are as follows:

Note that if the fittings are suspended the detector must be mounted on a level with or below the fittings (see illustration on next page). Individual fields in the lens system can be masked so that fields do not extend into areas where there is to be no detection, e.g. transverse passages. It is a good idea to carry out practical tests prior to final installation! See also application 2B with wall-mounted detector! Light sources This application shows an example of fittings with dimmable HF operating devices. Control system The passage in this example is periodically used very frequently, i.e. there are a lot of transits, thus installation of dynamic lighting control must be selected. This means fittings with dimmable HF operating devices, presence detection and level selectors. ‘Dynamic lighting control’ provides the following function: See schematic drawing below! |
NV-2T level selector is also available with DSI control (NV-2T DSI). Installation of detectors uses the simplest possible cables, e.g. EKKX 1 x 4 x 0.25 mm2. The same power supply can be used in up to 10 detectors and level selectors, depending on line lengths and positioning. Always prepare an electricity budget! For adjustment of the IR detector and the level selector, see the manual accompanying the relevant product. Correct adjustment is greatly simplified if the BL-1 field-indication diode (order No. 13035) is used. This especially applies to long passages.

SD-1 gradually ramps up the light level when switching from a low light level to a higher light level. The time taken to ramp up the lighting can be adjusted by a potentiometer. The rate of dimming is not adjustable. See the graph on the right. |
