5D. Sports hall with folding partition and IR detectors
Dimmable HF operating devices and two lighting groups
The premises
This example shows a sports hall with daylight ingress through a number of windows. The hall has two entrances and can be divided using a curtain-type folding partition. An active IR reflection detector detects the position of the partition. It is used for various types of activity ranging from exercise gymnastics to indoor bandy and handball matches. The various activities do not require equally strong lighting. You can thus select between two individual lighting levels in each half when the folding partition is closed, e.g.: approx. 30 per cent – basic lighting/exercise lighting (automatic activation) Light sources The fittings in the hall have dimmable HF operating devices. We recommend that the number of fittings be overdimensioned so that match lighting can be adjusted to 80 per cent. There are several advantages to this solution:
Control system The control system is based on the EX-13 logic module and two NV-2 level selectors. Presence in the hall is detected by two PD-2200 IR detectors with lens No. 15. Folding partition closed: When someone enters one half of the hall the basic lighting (30 per cent) is automatically activated by the IR detector in this half if the natural light from the windows is insufficient. It is controlled by a light sensor that measures the light in the hall and blocks activation if the light suffices. If the automatic activation is blocked the basic light can be switched on individually for each half of the hall using the spring-back on/off push-buttons.

If the activity in the hall requires more light the game lighting can be switched on individually for each half of the hall using a pulse-emitting high/low push-button. Renewed pressure on the button switches the lighting down to basic light level. When the presence ceases the lighting is switched off completely following the delay (5 – 7 minutes) set in the IR detector in the empty half of the hall. Manual deactivation is also possible using the on/off push-buttons. Folding partition open: Because the folding partition has a curtain construction it is flexible, and an active IR reflection detector is therefore used to detect when the partition is open. The IR detector has a higher tolerance for movement of the partition and must be used with curtain-type partitions. Both the supplied reflector strips should be used with the active IR detector and should be positioned to give the most reliable detection. A magnetic switch can be used on rigid folding partitions; see application 5B. Lighting control in each half of the hall is combined when the partition is open. Base lighting is switched on in the entire hall when presence is detected, and the IR detectors work together. Match lighting can be switched on in the entire hall using any “High-Low” push-button. Positioning of detectors Positioning of the detectors is crucial to function! The example shows how the detector should be positioned. With this positioning optimum detection is achieved upon entry. Furthermore, the detector does not see out through the entrance, which means the lighting is not switched on when someone passes by outside. When the folding partition is open the detectors in the middle of the hall interact, thus creating more reliable detection. The detectors are positioned in the corners furthest away from the entrances at a height of 2 – 2.5 m. The mounting height is very important for reliable detection. Mounting too high up can create relatively big areas with poor detection.
